Sussex marble

- A shell marble from Sussex, England that is predominantly gray with occasional green or blue tinges. Its old local name, 'winklestone,' refers to the abundance of small snail shells (winkles) embedded in the marble. Used to ornament churches in the Middle Ages, it remained popular for centuries.
