Scope note
Special cloths placed over a Christian altar. Chrismales altar cloths are impregnated with wax to make them impermeable. They are placed directly on the brick or stone, under the other altar cloths, for the purpose of preventing chrism or other oils used in the consecration of the altar from seeping into the other, upper altar cloths.
