Scope note
Large square-built concertinas developed by the German Heinrich Band in the 1840s. It has button keys and may have either a single or double action, though single is more common. Early models have 88 keys or more, but the average modern instrument has 71. They are best known as used by the tango bands of Brazil, Argentine, and Uruguay, but are also known in West Africa and the USA..
