- Wood of the species Betula alleghaniensis, native to the northeastern part of North America, with light yellow sapwood and reddish-brown heartwood. It is similar to sweet birch and is not separated from it commercially. It is used in the making of fine furniture, joinery, spools, bobbins, and plywood.
