- Wood from the species Oxandra lanceolata from northern South America and the West Indies; the most important commercial timber source of the lancewood family. It has a smooth close grain; its elasticity has made it useful for making bows, fishing rods, billiard cues, tool handles, carriage shafts, wheel spokes, and cabinetry.
