Scope note
Laminated cuirasses first appearing in Italy in the first quarter of the 16th century, built up of horizontal overlapping lames joined by leather straps and sliding rivets on the inner side. They went out of fashion in western Europe by the end of the 16th century, but continued to be popular throughout the 17th century in eastern Europe, particularly in Hungary and Poland where they were used by heavy cavalry.
