flexatones
- Scope note
- Idiophones invented in the 1920s consisting of a small flexible steel blade or lamella suspended in a wire frame ending in a handle. As the player waves the instrument, the blade is struck alternately on each side by wooden or rubber knobs on the end of wires fastened to the frame. For instruments whose sound is produced essentially by plucking lamellae, use "lamellaphones."
