Scope note
A thick-soled boot reaching to the middle of the leg, worn by huntsmen and men of upperclasses in ancient Greece and Rome, also by tragic actors in Athenian drama. They often took the form of calf-high laced boots, sometimes with a cork wedge to increase the wearer's height.
