Scope note
Refers to maps where the relief of physical features is physically raised in three dimensions. They were first mass produced during World War I by a process in which an aluminum sheet that had a map drawn on it was worked with the repoussé technique of tapping the reverse in order to raise the physical features in relief on the obverse. The metal sheet was then used to shape maps printed on plastic sheets.
