Scope note
Photographic prints made by the carbon process, which uses carbon pigment and gelatin to transfer images to a paper support. Carbon prints show a very slight relief and rarely exhibit signs of aging or image deterioration. During the last quarter of the 19th century they were widely used for book illustrations and the commercial reproduction of conventionally made photographs and prints.
