Scope note
Animal-drawn carts used historically to transport heavy materials such as manure. These may be considered particular to parts of Belgian and the Netherlands, though the general form of the two-wheeled cart is familiar to many places. These consist of an axle mounted to two wheels supporting a load-bearing platform. The distinguishing feature of the earth cart is that the mounts or beams for pulling the cart are separate hinged pieces attached to the support of the load platform so that the platform may be tilted while still mounted to a pack animal.
