Scope note
Semi- for fully-mechanized devices comprising an assemblage of needles on which flat or tubular garments can be knitted. To facilitate the knitting process, an open toe circle of fabric is held on the device's split dial, which automatically folds over to transfer and double-up the loops onto half of the dial for loop-to-loop linking. These devices come in myriad models, varing in degrees of complexity. Depending on the device model, knitting pattern stitches can be selected by hand manipulation of the needles, push-bottons and dials, mechanical punch cards, or electronic pattern reading devices and computers.
