Scope note
The term paishan goudi 排山勾滴 combines the words paishan, referring to the practice of aligning rooftiles (pai 排) along the slope of the gable end (shanmian 山面, lit. “mountain (peak)” “side”), and goudi, which refers to the goutou 勾頭 and dishui 滴水 capping tiles. In placing more emphasis on practice of paishan, it is also called “capping the gable-end tiles” (lingdang paisha 鈴鐺排山; lit. aligning bell clappers along the gable end) (Liu 1932, 193; Wang 1995, 31).
