Scope note
Half metal balls, which are filled with sand and covered with a layer of pitch. These form the basis for making chasing tools: the pitch fixes the object and forms a springy surface. By heating the pitch ball, the object is released. There are various recipes for making chasers pitch, but black or brown pitch is always the main ingredient.
