Scope note
Black-and-white or monochrome photographs that have color pigments manually applied to the surface. Referred to as hand-coloring or hand-tinting or hand-painting, colorants, usually dye, ink, or watercolor are applied lightly to the surface, such that the photograph beneath is still visible. Color is typically applied to selected areas of the photograph but may also be applied overall.
