Scope note
Plates or surfaces that hold marks or information necessary to produce an image or text on a substrate, producing a print or reproduceable multiple, traditionally by applying ink to the matrix before running through a press, but digital files may be considered a type of matrix as well when used in the 3D printing process, for example.
