Scope note
French art movement founded in Paris in 1978. It quickly attracted international artists. It emerged as a reaction to the official discourse, which no longer promoted figurative art and instead favored abstract art. The movement rejected this trend, asserting that art should not be limited to a specific message or medium. Art did not need to carry an explanatory idea, but instead should express a critical stance toward dominant values. The movement organizes an annual salon.
