- A lithographic technique where portions of the stone or plate that are to remain without color are covered with gum arabic, which protects from the effects of grease, and that is lightly tinted with ink so it may be seen on the stone while drawing. This layer is subsequently removed and etched so that the stone when wetted will repel the rolled-on ink in these areas. This technique can create a light image on a dark ground.
