Nineteenth-century architectural style that referenced Italian 16th-century Renaissance style The style first developed in Britain in about 1802 by John Nash, and it was taken up in other nations. For example, it was common in mid-19th-century North American residential architecture, which featured a low-pitched hipped roof topped by a belvedere.
