Scope note:

An early style of gem cutting that is thought to have originated in India and to have been brought to Europe by the Venetians. The rose cut is recognizable by its flat bottom and a crown side with triangular facets that come together in a point. It started out as a relatively simple cut, but became more sophisticated over time.
