Scope note:

A vitreous, transparent or translucent mineral that is a silicate of aluminium and sodium containing sodium chloride, usually of a greenish blue color but also grey, yellow, green, or pink, and is often mottled with white veins or patches. It is found in certain igneous rocks. A component of lapis lazuli, it is also used alone as a gemstone.
