Scope note:

Registries made of metal plates, usually round or rectangular and of relatively small size, into which the hallmarks of registered metalworkers are stamped with the maker's original stamp. The metal plates were easily transportable, and could be used to validate authenticity of works of gold, silver, and other metals.
