General term for any of several viscous hydrocarbon oils, including the oil pressed from paraffin wax. Paraffin oil is sold in several grades and ranges in color from brown to yellowish brown with a pronounced bluish bloom. Debloomed paraffin oil is pale gold in color and is used as higher-grade polishes and as household lubricating oil.
