Anotations

Scope note:

Style of painting that flourished in Tibet from the 11th to the 14th century. Two distinct versions of this style exist, both closely associated with the Kadampa monasteries. One style developed in central Tibet, the other in western Tibet. The Pala-Tibetan style of central Tibet was known for its distinctive coloration and slim, willowy figures adorned with peculiar jewelry and pointed diadems. The western version of the style is more cursive and freely drawn; overall it is more expressive and less elegant than its central counterpoint.
