Scope note:

A pottery style characterized as attractive sgraffito wares featuring densely incised calligraphic, figurative and geometric designs on crosshatched, cream-colored grounds. Animals designs were popular. Some of the designs found on Amol wares may be derived from metalwork prototypes. Designs are covered with transparent colorless glaze and varying amounts of green oxides. The town of Amol, in the Mazandaran province of western Persia, was the center of production for this pottery style between the 11th and early 13th centuries.
