Scope note:

A process of plating copper, also sometimes brass or iron, with silver leaf, as used by French platers from the early 18th century, and later by English platers, to repair imperfectly plated copper pieces or to refinish exposed copper on worn pieces. Similar to "close plating" but costlier.
