Scope note:

Fortified enclosures constructed on a raised block of land that forms a promontory of some kind projecting out from a hillside or cliff line. The main defenses cut off the neck of the promontory, the remainder of the perimeter having natural defensive capabilities. Most date back to the Iron Age.
