Scope note:

In ancient Greece, monuments erected by leaders or winners of certain choral or musical competitions; often quite elaborate. The best known was erected in 335/334 BCE near the Acropolis of Athens, by the choregos Lysicrates who was a patron of musical performances in the Theater of Dionysus. The form was a circular stone structure encircled by columns of the Corinthian order, on a square base.
