Scope note:

Devices, comprising a fixed jaw, moveable jaw, pointer, and pendulum, designed to measure the degree to which lightweight fabrics and resin-finished cloth can both withstand the effects of tearing and resist further propagation of a tear after it has been initiated. To measure a fabric's tearing strength, a small rectangular fabric sample is placed between the device's fixed and moveable jaws where it is torn rapidly by the motion of a falling pendulum. The energy loss during tearing is then assessed.
