Anotations

Scope note:

Refers to the beginning of the Hellenistic period, from around 330 BCE to around 220 BCE. It is characterized by the establishment of Greek workshops in distant cities, including Syracuse, Pergamon, and Alexandria. It is marked by the creation of technically advanced works of art that incorporate human figures that differ from Late Classical art in that they have increasingly elongated proportions and they exhibit subtly idealized portraiture that begins to incorporate true character studies.
