Scope note:

Members of an infraorder containing approximately 2,000 species of crustaceans characterized by a semitransparent body flattened from side to side and a flexible abdomen terminating in a fanlike tail. They are close relatives of crabs, crayfish, and lobsters. Shrimps are sometimes classified as a suborder, Natantia.
