Navajo wearing blankets characterized by horizontal bands of indigo, red, black, and white wool and rectangular motifs often placed in the center and sides of the work. Produced by Navajo weavers from the 1850s to the 1870s. Not associated with rank; "chief blanket" refers to their value assigned by Navajo and Plains communities.
