Scope note:

Refers to pottery styles that developed in Chalkis, Etruria, and other Chalcidian colonies, particularly the black-figure style that dates from around 550 BCE to around 510 BCE. It is characterized by excellence in drawing and glazing, often with vigorous battle themes and the occasional retention of rows of animals that was typical of earlier styles.
