Scope note:

Refers to a pottery style first found on the west slope of the Acropolis in Athens, but later known in many other locations. It existed from the fifth century BCE through the fourth century BCE, and is characterized by a stamped decoration that was covered with black glaze. Floral motifs and other decorations were sometimes painted in red, white, or yellow on the black surface.
