Scope note:

A type of white marble with a medium fine texture from Lee, Massachusetts. It can sometimes be light gray in appearance. A small band of Lee marble was used in the Washington Monument in Washington, D.C. but it proved too costly; it was, however, used to build parts of the Capitol in the 1850s.
