Scope note:

Directional filters that when positioned at a certain angle pass only light polarized in the direction perpendicular to reflected light, which is absorbed. This absorption diminishes glare reflected from reflective surfaces such as glass or water, or suppress atmospheric glare in the light of the sky. The rotational orientation of the filter is adjusted for the preferred effect.
