Anotations

Scope note:

From the Latin for "chairs" or "seats," refers to ancient Roman chairs of heavy structure that were derived from the klismos, which is a lighter, more delicate chair developed by the ancient Greeks. For chairs used by bishops in Christian cathedrals, use "cathedrae (bishop's chairs)."
