Scope note:

Heavy, long-range, muzzleloading rifles designed for use on the western frontier of the United States, approximately from 1800 to 1870. Typically they were unornamented, made with browned or dull metal that did not gleam in the light, and fitted with percussion locks and double-set triggers.
