It was a counter-movement that wanted to break open the imposed art under the Franco regime. The style is based on Surrealism and Dadaism, but combined with Cubism and contemporary post-war trends, which opened Spanish art to foreign influences and made it the precursor of Spanish informal art and Abstract Expressionism.
