The ancient Greeks believed the panther was one of the favored mounts of the god Dionysus. In Medieval legend, the panther would sleep in a cave after feasting upon prey, and after three days emitted a sweet odor from its mouth, to draw additional prey into the cave.  ]]></note></mads>
