It was discovered in 1976 by researchers at Queen Elizabeth College, University of London, during a collaborative research program with UK sugar producer, Tate & Lyle, PLC. It is sold under the brand name Splenda (TM). In conservation, it has been used in the treatment of waterlogged wood. ]]></note></mads>
