Schmidt telescopes were invented by Bernhard Schmidt of the Bergedorf Observatory in Hamburg, in 1930. Each Schmidt telescope has a spherical primary mirror which then passes light through a spherical corrective lens, thus eliminating spherical aberrations from the mirror.  ]]></note></mads>
