This liberation would mean a state of bliss (ananda), freedom from sorrow and higher awareness. It is the fourth and ultimate artha (goal) for Hindus, attained when ignorance, desire, and all attachments are overcome. There are various interpretations of moksha, especially in regard to how it is attained, whether by personal effort, by grace of a personal god, or a combination of the two.
