The term is sometimes translated as flavor, mood, or aesthetic delight. Theoreticians identified eight major moods: erotic, humorous, heroic, furious, piteous, wondrous, terrifying, and disgusting. A work of art had to have, in addition to a major mood, other features such as accompanying minor moods, determinants, and consequents; these features, in varying combinations, produced the overall aesthetic experience.
