Scope note:

Repair treatment used to combat carbonation-induced corrosion of steel in concrete and restore alkalinity. Realkalization, also known as electrochemical realkalization treatment (ERT), applies an electric field between the reinforcement in the concrete and an externally mounted anode mesh. An alkaline electrolyte is transported into the concrete, increasing the alkalinity of the cover zone, returning the steel reinforcement to a passive condition in the process.
