Scope note:

The princess cut is a combination of a brilliant-cut variation with a square or, less often, rectangular outline. The design evolved to increase the brilliance of square and rectangular gem cuts by increasing the number of facets on the crown and pavilion. There is no standardized arrangement although the majority have 76 facets.
