Scope note:

Units of illuminance measured as the degree of illumination that falls upon the interior of a sphere with a radius of one foot from a uniform point source of light of one candle and equal to one lumen per square foot. In the metric system, a lumen is measured by a square meter or a lux. Thus a foot-candle is equivalent to approximately 10 lux or 10.57 lux.
