Anotations

Scope note:

Culture and style of an Eastern Algonquian Native American tribe that inhabited in the Hudson River Valley prior to the 17th century. Their name translates to "people of the waters that are never still." After first contact, the Mohican migrated to Stockbridge, Massachusetts. The Mohican gradually sold much of their territory in the region and were grouped into a Stockbridge reservation in 1736, thereafter being known as the Stockbridge Band. The Stockbridge Band later migrated to Wisconsin where they were joined by the Munsee Band, and were allotted a reservation (the Stockbridge-Munsee Community).
