Scope note:

A type of small communal housing development, designed and managed by the occupants, in which each resident family owns a home and shares with the group common facilities, such as kitchens, child care centers, and laundry rooms, and their associated tasks. The modern method of cohousing originated in Denmark in the 1960s.
