Anotations

Scope note:

Prints into which embellishments have been introduced by cutting portions of the original prints out to accomodate the insertion of textiles, affixed by glue or other means, usually to contribute to the depiction of costume. Dressed prints of the late 17th and early 18th century usually depict full-length figures, often of named individuals, and were the work of dedicated amateurs. The practice re-emerged in early 19th century England. For later 19th century prints often of theatrical figures embellished with metallic foil and sometimes textiles, use 'tinsel prints.'
